FAQs
Your questions answered...
Do you shoot film or digital?
I learnt photography with black and white film using Nikon SLR camera at Bournemouth & Poole Art College - now I shoot exclusively digitally, always in the RAW format which gives the best tonal range - all good photographers will always shoot in RAW.
What equipment do you work with?
I work with Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, accompanied by Z Nikon Lenses. My three favourite pieces of glass for a wedding are the trinity zoom Z Nikon lenses along with a Nikon 105mm Macro for very close-up details. I also bring various flash lights for extra lighting if needed.
What is your style?
I photograph in a natural reportage style, whilst I mix-in timeless, creative portraits and close-up detail imagery to tell the story of your day. Take a look at my portfolio, if you like what you see then I’m a good choice for you.
How do you conduct yourself at weddings? What is your approach
I try and be as unobtrusive as possible at weddings, all of my clients say they don't even notice I am there. I keep my interaction with the bride and groom to a minimum unless directing portraits and group shots.
How long will it take until we receive our photos?
I usually complete all the post-production and upload the images to an online gallery for you to view within 4-6 weeks depending on the time of year, I always send a few sample, taster images within a few days to get you excited!
Do we get an album?
This is not included in my digital package, but I do offer this as an extra service.
I don't offer a traditional album but more of a coffee table book, which I believe is a more modern take. As an ex-graphic designer I have a lot of experience in this field, so you are safe in the knowledge that you will receive a beautiful book with carefully selected images (either you can select or I can do it for you). We can also customise details such as page amount, size, finishes, and also offer smaller duplicate parent books.
If you want me to look at adding a book for you I offer a 10% reduction at the time of your initial photography booking.
Colour or Black & White?
Some images will suit one colouring and vice versa. If you have a strong preference for Black & White then I can focus my post production with that as a priority.
How much experience do you have?
I shot my first wedding in Dorset 9 years ago, now I shoot around 10-12 a year. I also undertake commercial commissions, so in order to keep my work at a high standard for both I currently won’t shoot any more than 12 weddings a year.
Do you shoot group shots and how long do they take?
My style is natural and reportage rather than staged, but I understand this is something most people want at some point during the day, so yes I do! It helps if you can provide a list of the family / friends you would like included and I'll ensure there is time set aside for them. Usually formals take around 30 minutes and I would advise there are no more than 10-15.
What if I don’t like my photograph being taken?
I often find that the couples who tell me that they do not generally like their photos being taken, actually enjoy the wedding photography on the day! I have a fun and relaxed approach and for the most part you won't even notice I am there. I am confident of capturing you at your best which helps to put you at ease and enjoy the photography.
I also find the pre-shoot is so important when it comes to how couples relax with me taking their photographs. It is a powerful get-to-know each other exercise which gradually leads to couples letting their hair down and then on the big day they are totally at ease.
We like the idea of an engagement shoot – where can we do this?
Anywhere that is special and means something to you as a couple! Preferably somewhere picturesque and quiet – woods, beach or around some interesting architecture.
Do you have relevant insurance?
Yes I have Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance.
How many pictures will you take at my wedding?
There is no limit to the number of photographs I take – I will take as many pictures as there are opportunities. The quantity will depend on the size of your wedding, the location, the weather and the time of year. On a full day's shooting it will usually be between 1500 and 2500 images and I would usually supply between 500-700 as a final edit.
What if it rains?
A good photographer should be able to cope with all conditions - where at all possible I will visit the venue in advance to ensure there are locations we can use for the group photos, couple shots and bridal portraits in the event of bad weather, and I'll be bringing lighting equipment with me in case we do have to shoot indoors.
Can we meet you before the wedding to discuss our requirements?
I believe it is mutually beneficial for both parties to meet up before the big day. However, if a meeting proves logistically impossible we can still discuss all your queries or concerns over the phone or on Skype. The meeting is free of charge and you are not committed.
